She was born in Missouri and grew up a child of the world moving from country to country and continent to continent. Her first major acting gig was in 1978 on a daytime soap opera.
Just 3 years later she starred in the film Body Heat and immediately was catapulted into nationwide fame for her sexiness and image of a femme fatale. She also provided the sexy voice of Jessica Rabbit in Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
She was considered one of the most beautiful women ever caught on film and she went so far as to proclaim "[If I walk into a room and] a man doesn't look at me, he's probably gay."
She remained popular throughout the decade until she was struck down by rheumatoid arthritis in the early 1990s. Her popularity rapidly declined as her size increased.
Eventually she became a mockery, oft made fun of for how unbelievably far away from her good looks she has strayed, and more so for her once sexy voice that, combined with her rotund face and figure, has earned her a role as a male-to-female post-op transsexual in Friends (as Chandler Bing's father). At least she's confident enough to make fun of herself.
