Jack was born in New York City to be raised as his mother's brother and his grandparents' son. He never learned of that secret until an interview with Time Magazine in 1974.
He is a bit of a classic actor delivering some of the most memorable theatrical performances to ever illuminate a silver screen. The overriding theme of most of his roles was that of an eccentric or madman.
He was in several films starting in the late 1950s, but his first big screen break came in 1969's Easy Rider alongside Dennis Hopper and Peter Fonda. From there his success was all uphill earning him many leading roles in very successful movies and the winner of many awards.
In his down time the Lakers' sideline has always been his second home, almost never missing a home game.
